The Voodoo Story
In April of 2010 Leominster resident, Mike Nelson, decided to start a 10U team, so that his daughter could continue playing softball after the Leominster Lassie League Rec season had ended. He brought this to fruition with the assistance of Lisa Nugent. The team was named the Leominster Voodoo and started with 12 local players. The Voodoo had a very successful first season - all the girls improved their softball skills, competing in many Open tournaments, while having a great time!
In 2010 the Leominster area had been lacking in options for competitive softball, so word of the Voodoo spread quickly and before we knew it, we had enough players to field two 12U teams for the 2011 season - Voodoo White and Voodoo Purple.
Additionally, players from other age groups had shown great interest, so a 10U, 14U and a 16U team were added for the 2012 season. With this growth we have renamed the organization the Central Mass Voodoo. We then added an 18U team for the 2014 season.
In 2015 we fostered a relationship with the Union Square Sports Hub, and St Bernards High School. We now have year round affordable training for our players at wonderful facilities.
In 2016 The Central Mass Voodoo added an 18 plus program to its growing organization of over 8 girls.
CMV keeps growing! In 2017 we have added two additional teams to our program. We have added a 12U and 16U Team. We now have 8 teams, 95 girls and 21 Coaches in the Central Mass Voodoo family. Our CMV teams all compete at the highest levels possible playing in "A" level tournaments as well as Regional and National tournaments. We have become one of the premier softball programs in all of Massachusetts and New England.
In 2018 CMV adds a 9th team to their ever flourishing program! CMV now has over 105 players in their program from 4 states and 35 communities throughout New England. We credit our success to a wonderful staff, great facilities and dedicated players and parents. With 40 Championships since 2011 and numerous 2nd and 3rd places is a wonderful statement to that.
In 2019 we add 4 teams to our program and we change the name from Central Mass Voodoo to Voodoo Softball because of the diversity of location of our players and families. Voodoo Softball in 2019 has 13 teams and 160 players and 33 coaches from 80 communities in Mass and 4 New England states.
Between 2018 and 2022 the Voodoo Program wins over 60 Championships throughout New England and beyond and is as strong as ever with 12 teams, 150 players and 33 coaches. Voodoo in it's first 12 years has over 100 championships, 4 state championships, and produced 13 All-Americans and four top 200 players in the USA.
We have had over 75 players go onto compete in college softball at Div 1,2 and 3 level, many of which have returned to coach.
